There is a robot that paths through the mages every 30 seconds or so. Breaking los is useful for pulling them back in to the corner to provide a little more space to move around and also for interrupting their casting of Solarburn if need be.
You can use this cube to break line of sight on the mages. Take note of the large power cube to your left. This is when I buff up and prepare for the pull (elixir/flask, dampen magic, fire ward, ice barrier - no mana shield though as it eats too much of your mana). I didn't stand directly behind it, but close enough where both astromages are in line of sight. Next, pop mage invis talent and run down the stairs to the legion cache. It should be noted that for some reason, a bug I imagine, consuming a lesser invis pot places a 10 minute cooldown on your mana gems which sucks since you cannot take advantage of the Serpent Coil Braid proc. This leads to a small area where no mobs path (in front of you should be the top of the staircase that leads down to the legion cache). Zone in and move towards the left hallway, chug an invis pot as you approach the first mobs and run through them, continue down the hall and up the ramp, taking the first left turn. These are (I think) the only astromages that could feasibly be farmed solo.
There is a pair of astromages located near the legion cache. This was done in normal mode since, according to this thread, the astromages only drop it in normal difficulty. I've been on many, many mech runs (hit exalted with Sha'tar over 6 months ago) and never had it drop so I decided to try and solo farm it. In conclusion, if you want to farm for the recipe, do normal mech runs, they are easier and you get a higher chance to see the recipe drop.Ĭomment by ThottbotI solo farmed this on my 10/0/51 frost mage w/ alchemy. On HEROIC mode, the trash mobs can't drop it, so assuming lowest drop rate you have a 25% chance of getting the recipe from a heroic run. On NORMAL mode, if we assume the lowest drop rate, we have 10*3% which is 30%, not including the boss, which has 3%-14% of dropping it as well. So, from my observation there are 10 mobs named Sunseeker Astromage in Mechanar. In heroic mode, the Sunseeker Astromage **CAN'T** drop it, but the second boss has a higher chance of dropping it (25%-50%) In normal mode, the recipe can drop from Sunseeker Astromage, the trash mobs which appear mainly on the 2nd floor (3%-14% chance each)Īnd it can drop from Nethermancer Sepethrea (second "real" boss), 3%-14% chance. This recipe can drop in both normal and heroic mode of Mechanar.
